Valley Christian | Our History

Valley Christian Center began in 1963 when Curtis & Gloria Smith, prompted by Pastor James Swanson of Bethel Temple, added a room to their Dublin home with space for 80 chairs, a pulpit and a piano.  The neighborhood was canvassed and services began with a small nucleus of people, out of which grew our VCC Family.  Valley Christian Schools, a ministry of Valley Christian Center, now has a sprawling campus that houses over 1,000 students on a daily basis.

1963     

Pastor Gene & Joan Anderson, serving as Associate Pastors at Bethel Temple, Hayward, are asked to pioneer the new church in Dublin.

1966    

VCC secures the property site of 7400 San Ramon Road (current location of McNamara's Restaurant) and completes the main church building.

1968     

Pastor Rick & Anita Howard become VCC's second Pastors.  Pastor Howard's leadership resulted in the opening of Tri-Valley's first interdenominational Christian school.

1970     

Valley Christian Elementary School (K-6th) opens at the former Dublin Elementary School.

1971     

Pastor Ward & Dixie Tanneberg become our beloved Senior Pastors for the next 23 years.

1972     

Valley Christian Small World Preschool Daycare gets underway and Valley Christian Junior High opens with grades 7 & 8. 

1977     

Forty-nine acres of property in the Dublin hills are purchased and preparations are made for a permanent home for our growing VCC family.

1982     

VCC dedicates the first buildings "on the hill" for Valley Christian Preschool, Valley Christian Junior & Senior High Schools, and CCTV-28.

1990     

VCC dedicates the Sycamore Family Center, now known as Valley Christian JR & SR High School.

1995     

Pastor Kenneth & Judith Mayton leave the Oklahoma hills to come to the VCC hill as our fourth Senior Pastors, during which time the Elementary School moved onto the VCC campus.

2001     

Pastor Ray and Linda Noah begin their ministry as VCC's fifth Senior Pastors and carry on the vision to reach our Valley, and beyond, for Christ.  A state-of-the-art athletic field is added to our campus ministry.

2006     

VCC launches Phase 1 of Vision to Victory, our facility expansion plan to reach and serve our growing community.

2007     

VCS appoints its first Superintendent of Schools, Pastor John Moran.

2008     

Pastor Roger and Janae Valci take on the mantle of leadership as Lead Pastor to begin leading us in a new season of grace and growth at Valley Christian Center.

2012 VCC appoints Dave Johnson as Chief Operations Officer.
